CONSTRUCTION began yesterday on a joint pavilion built by eight of China's leading private enterprises for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

The pavilion would showcase the concept that Chinese private enterprise could lead the country's and even the world's economy out of its depression, said Guo Guangchang, the chairman of Fosun Group, China's largest private conglomerate, which will coordinate the funding and construction of the pavilion.

Covering 6,000 square meters on the Puxi side of the Expo site, the pavilion will be made up of several huge cells. It will explore the theme of "Infinite Vitality."

Guo said the pavilion would use cutting-edge technology to give visitors a spectacular and interactive experience encompassing the energy and spirit of Chinese private companies.

Guo also announced the pavilion's motto: Action, Not Words! The motto demonstrated that Chinese private companies embraced creativity, innovation, challenge and passion, Guo said.

The budget was still being calculated, but it would be shared by the pavilion enterprise, said Wang Qunbin, the executive director of Fosun.

Sun Ping, director of the pavilion, said the team planned to invite two more private companies to join.

The newcomers should be business leaders in their fields of expertise, Sun said.
